Lou Henry Hoover School of Fine Arts

Hoover School of Fine Arts is a Visual and Performing Arts School.
All students participate in the four arts: Dance, Theater, Singing and Visual Arts

DANCE
All our students participate in a Winter or Spring Program, where they practice for months on doing a dance routine for their family.  We have a dance choreographer that comes to help prepare our students for their dance performances.  We also have an after school dance group where students need to try out to be apart of our Dance Club.
THEATER
Every year, our Drama / Music Teacher selects a show for our Hoover students to perform.  Students from 3rd-5th grade will try-out for their part and perform on stage at the Whittier Community Center or Whittier High School Auditorium.  Some of the shows we have done are: Mary Poppins, Lion King, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Annie, Shrek the Musical, Aristocats just to name a few.  Also, each grade level will also practice for a fun play within their class.  The Drama / Music Teacher selects a fun short theater show for each grade level to practice and perform in front of each other.  This helps our student read better and feel more comfortable acting in front of their own peers.

SINGING
All our students meet with our Drama / Music Teacher on a weekly basis.  They sing a variety of songs and learn how to read basic notes and beats.  Our Kinder - 2nd graders can join our Little Hawk's Choir and our 3rd - 5th Graders can join our Hoover Hawk's Choir.  Our Choir will sing at our school and district events as well as go out into our community and sing their little hearts away at places like the Whittier Parade and Retirement / Senior Centers to name a couple.
VISUAL ARTS
Each classroom integrates the arts on a regular basis.  We use a variety of mediums to create our visual arts. We have Art Teachers that come to our school on a regular basis to learn and create pieces from multi artists.  Our top pieces of work from Kinder to 5th grade are entered into our Annual District Art Show help at the Art exhibit off Painter.  We also have guest art teacher come to our school to teach our students an assortment of arts such as Graffiti Art which is used in logos like Subway, Nike and other commercial signs.
