Dear Hoover Hawk Families,
It is with great excitement that I welcome both new and returning families back to the 2018-19 school year! I hope that you all are having a wonderful, restful summer and that you and your child(ren) are looking forward to the upcoming academic year. The first day of school will be here before we know it, August 15!
I wanted to share some news with you, this year all Hoover Students will be wearing uniforms. The uniform consists of:
Please read the uniform letter for more information.
Families, I wanted to share some more exciting news with you…Hoover made significant growth on the CAASPP State Testing in both English Language Arts and Mathematics! This is a great accomplishment that could not have happened without our dedicated team of teachers, staff, students, and parents all striving towards a common goal. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child’s learning and success. I look forward to sharing more detailed information with you at the beginning of the school year and continuing this trajectory in 2018-19!
As we begin a new school year, I joyfully anticipate pursuing the work we began this past year by partnering with our families, students and staff to further develop Hoover’s commitment to the Arts, instructional excellence in Balanced Literacy and Mathematics, and meeting the needs of every student. We have many opportunities for you to participate in your child’s educational experience throughout the school year. We will have Family Nights, Performing Arts events, PFO events, Dads Club, ELAC, GATE Open House, and the list goes on.
As we all know communication is very important in order for you to know what is happening at your child’s school. In the past, I have utilized the Alert Solutions teleparent system to send out weekly updates via email, text and over the telephone. This year our district is no longer using that system of communication. Therefore, we will now be using Sangha to share weekly information with our families. If you haven’t already, please download the Sangha Parent Communication App to your mobile phone and log in using the e-mail/phone number, on record for you in WCSD’s records.
Another easy way to stay current, is by accessing our website at hoover.whittiercity.net. The online calendar is updated regularly, and monthly newsletters and event fliers will be posted there as well. In addition, we’d love to have you like us on Facebook as we regularly post school-wide information and/or pictures from school events. We also will continue to send home calendars, flyers and important notifications in the white “communicator” envelope that goes home every Thursday. Your support in making sure you are keeping up with school-wide information is greatly appreciated.
Our top priority and commitment is to ensure that your children are safe during the school day and are receiving the best educational experience. Once the school year begins, I respectfully ask if you have a concern, to please visit our front office and request a Parent Concern Form and we will make sure it is addressed in a timely manner. We will respond either by phone, e-mail, or if you would like to meet in person, we will gladly make an appointment. You can also email and/or call. This will ensure that I’m available to support students and teachers while on campus. I appreciate your support and understanding in this matter.
As your principal and Hoover Alumna, I look forward to a fantastic year ahead as we work together to provide an exemplary schooling experience for every Hoover Hawk. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see you at our Meet and Greet on Monday, August 7 at 10 a.m.
