First Grade

Welcome First Graders

Dear Parents and Future First Grader,

We hope you have a very enjoyable summer filled with many new experiences your child can share in the fall. Please remember to take some time to have your child continue to practice writing simple sentences, reading picture books and practicing their math facts. This will help them be more successful in first grade.

When they enter first grade, we will begin our year with a quick review of Kindergarten curriculum and then transition to First Grade curriculum. By the end of first grade, your child will be required to read up to Levels I, J, K, write a personal narrative, an expository and an opinion paper. In math, your child will need to be able to count up to 120 by 1's, 5's and 10's along with adding and subtracting numbers up to 20.

Along with those subjects, we will be exploring areas of science, social studies, physical education and the arts. We look forward to meeting you and your child in the upcoming year.

Sincerely,
Your Future First Grade Teachers
